Hi Everyone!
Squirt Camp is done. Although a short week, it was very busy. These guys went hard all day, slept hard all night and then got up and went hard again. Nice thing about this week – early bed times! It gave the cabin leaders a bit of extra rest to keep up with these campers. As I mentioned last week, Squirt Camp is an introductory camp so the camper get a taste of what camp is like when they come for a full week – and all of them have already said they’re coming back again next year!! I was listening in on one of the cabins while they were doing their evaluation of the week and everything was “awesome!” We obviously did everything right this week!
Jill Gendall, our speaker this week, did an awesome job sharing about Jesus with the campers. She had them remember a phrase each chapel such as: Who is God? Our creator, our ruler and our Father; What’s the deal with sin? It separates us from God; Is the Bible true? Every word. And the campers did remember each time she asked the questions each chapel. For many of the campers, this was the first time that they have heard about Jesus in a way other than a swear word so for many of them it was a week of processing a new way of thinking. But God did great work again this week and we had 12 campers come to the Lord for the first time with 3 who made recommitments! Pray for these little guys that God would have the opportunity to continue the work that has begun in their lives and hearts. Also, pray for those who, even at such a young age, have chosen to turn their backs on God because of family decisions or hurts they’ve had inflicted. Pray that the message they heard this week would stay with them and they would someday choose to follow because of the influence of camp.
Eventually I will be putting more pictures of the past weeks on Facebook so if you want to see them, go the Stoney Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stoney-Lake-Bible-Camp/223713554325460.
JUNIOR 3:
Starting Sunday, August 7, we have 102 Junior campers, age 8-11, coming. The camp will run similar to how the Junior camps have run with different skills, wide games, and night games.
Our support staff for the week are:
Junior Cabin Leaders: Landon Seipp, Jordan Seipp, Shayne Foster, Millie Hart, Maggie Wilson, Destinee Mills, Rachel Linnell
Cooks: Val Weber, Arlene Schmidt, Stephanie Schmidt, Billie Jean Thompson, Tannis Goudy
Cleaning Lady: Deana Syrenne
Camp Grandparents: Marty & Russ Harris
Nurse: Judy Regie
Our speaker this week is Carol Harrison. This is also Carol’s first time speaking at Stoney. I have to admit that I don’t know much about Carol except that she comes highly recommended from other camps and has a lot of experience as a children’s speaker. I believe that she is from Saskatoon. Pray that she would be able to adapt to the culture of Stoney quickly and connect well with the campers and staff. Pray that God would speak through her to share the message of Christ with the campers.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
Pray for the cabin leaders as the summer has been getting long and they still have several weeks to go!
Praise the Lord for only a few cases of homesickness this week! We had a few who started out homesick but pressed through and flat out said they didn’t want to go home! But please continue to pray against homesickness for the following weeks.
If you ever have questions or would like to come out to help out or visit, give us a call. Check out our website: www.stoneycamp.ca.
Once again, THANK YOU so much for your willingness to pray for the camp.
In His service,
Myra Schmidt
