Prayer Update – August 9, 2019

Squirt & Family Camp Highlights

Hi Everyone!

It was a great half week with the Squirt campers!  The campers had so much fun and the cabin leaders did an amazing job working with these little guys.  They take their time getting to skills, chapel and wide games, but our cabin leaders did so well in keeping them on track!  As I might have mentioned in last week's update, these campers don't pick skills but get to try most of the things we do around camp. At the beginning of the week we split them into 13 teams which they do each activity together, along with their leader.  They got to enjoy the climbing wall, make a "Turtle" in crafts, fun beach games, the low elements course, a pontoon ride, bouncy castles in the chapel, gaga ball, a ride on the "Stoney Train",  parachute games in the field, making snacks at the firepit, kayaking, the petting zoo/barn, and hanging out with the horses which is run by Michelle and Gillian Fleury. It was a jam packed three days and the campers had so much fun!  There were several campers who were sad and had a hard time the first night but we had no campers leave the camp because of homesickness.

Kelly Peters, our speaker for the week, did an amazing job with these campers.  He brought the Gospel of Mark to life, having them read with him about how Jesus came to bring "The Kingdom of Light". He spoke about how the Romans and the religious leaders didn't get that Jesus was our King. A King is supposed to conquer their enemies by war and weapons, but Jesus willingly suffered and died for us on the cross. He asked the campers to make sure they got the message Jesus was sharing this week, to not leave camp before they understood what He had done for them. Kelly had his son, Seth, with him this week. Seth spoke during our morning chapels and he continued the Gospel of Mark.

FAMILY CAMP

It seems so long ago now but Family camp went very well on the long weekend.  The families seemed to have a lot of fun and many said that they really look forward to this weekend every year.  Ken Reader, our speaker, really connected with the adults as he spoke on creation science.  We had two of our LIT's this summer, Jill and Madison Thompson, stay and lead the kids chapel. It was a wonderful weekend, weather wise! Lots of time spent by the beach, soaking up the sun! A great weekend had by all!

Junior 3 Camp

Junior Three starts this Sunday, August 11.  We have about 126 campers ages 8-11 registered for camp!  The schedule goes back to normal.

Our support staff for the week are:

LITs: Addison Leicht, Morgan Atamanchuk, Jayne Waterhouse, Madison Thompson, Matt Hoess, Nicole Mitchell, Brady Behiel, Levi Rask, Skyler Knudtson, and Sam Kuperis

Cooks: Val Moulton, Bruce & Nelda Bertram, Colleen Huston

Nurse: Amy Bourassa

Grandparents: Keith & Heather Burns

Extra Help: Jodine Arndt.

Our speaker is Luke Bergmann. Luke has spoken at Stoney for a couple years know. He is the Associate Pastor at the Tisdale Alliance Church. Him and his wife, Rachelle, have a two year old daughter. Pray that Luke would be able to speak God's word clearly to the campers and be able to connect with them.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to be working in the campers hearts as they hear the message spoken through Luke and be receptive to God's calling!

Prayer Requests

There are several general but HUGE prayer requests that I have for the whole summer:

  • Pray that these campers would have encouragement to continue in their faith while at home.
  • Pray against homesickness - God has been blessing us this summer with keeping kids here but continue to pray for compassion and patience with the homesick campers.
  • Pray that the staff would continue to have energy and stamina to finish the last two weeks.
  • Praise God for healing our staff members.  Continue to pray for safety.
  • Praise God for the steady increase in camper numbers.  However, we still have room for more campers in Teen Camp.  Continue to pray that God would fill the camp and we would have more opportunities to share the Gospel.
  • Pray that God would work in the staff's lives as they work with the campers, that they would rely on God for everything they need especially as the weeks go on and they get tired.
  • Pray for Rose. She is suffering from Vertigo this week. Pray for a speedy recovery!

Well I think that’s it for this update.  Thanks again for your prayers.
